Hanging Lake

I took a detour today at a spot that looked promising. Hanging Lake Trail is a 1.2 mile hike with over 1000 feet of climb. The signs listed the trail as “difficult ... bring plenty of water”. When Colorado classifies something as difficult….listen to them. The hike was grueling but gorgeous. The lake at the top of the climb is a small body of water on the side of a cliff. The entire upstream side of the lake is sourced by a set of giant waterfalls. A little farther up the trail is what they called “Spouting Rock”. It’s a tall waterfall that sources the stream that leads to the lake. You can freely go behind the waterfall and beyond, which I did. I almost didn’t take my camera into the cave behind the water. It was pretty wet and I didn’t bring along a rain cover. I went ahead and packed the camera deeper into my backpack and only brought it out when I found a decently dry area. The ceiling was dripping everywhere but I took a few quick shots and put the camera back away. It got a little wet but nothing that I think will hurt it.
