Long Canyon Road (the hard way)

After Arches, I found a scenic road that seemed to curve back around to Canyonlands National Park. After the first mile, it was apparent that this road was meant to only be driven by off-road vehicles. The road (if you can call it a road) winds up a cliff face with steep inclines and extremely rocky terrain. My two wheel drive conversion van struggled in many spots and experienced one tire malfunction. After turning down aid from passers-by (I have a tire patch kit and a spare) I realized that my patch kit is out of plugs.....Drat! I finally got the spare on with time to spare just before dark. I finished the climb to the top. A harrowing adventure to say the least. Once on top, I grabbed some panoramic photos just before the rain began to fall. If it wasn't for my positive attitude and my persistence with letting this trip play out however it may, I might have been extremely frustrated when I realized that the road, once at the top, was flat and headed straight back into town. As it is, I wouldn't change my path choice in a million years. A wise poem comes to mind about roads less taken.
