Rabbit Valley

I decided to camp out tonight. Right at the Colorado/Utah border is an outdoor area called Rabbit Valley. It's a huge dessert conservation area with scattered camping sites and trails. There are trails dedicated to hiking, but the biggest draw seems to be their ATV trails. I've seen many trucks hauling dirt bikes and four-wheelers. The roads are fairly primitive here so I inched my way to about as far as I could go. The view out here is amazing and I met a local couple. George, Nancy and their dog Simba are camped right on the edge of a canyon. They informed me that this is the spot that most of the locals come to for some summer recreation. They had just floated the river in the canyon the day before and their previous campsite was actually within view of where we were overlooking the canyon. They said there's a great migration from Colorado to Utah starting in the spring when the ski resort season ends. I think their wording was, "You know it's spring when the license plates in Utah turn green." (Colorado plates are green)

After leaving George and Nancy's camp site, I continued to look for an open camp site. There were plenty of spots, but most had close neighbors. I found a spot to camp at the base of a mesa. The view looking out over the valley is great and hopefully this will be a good spot for star photography tonight.
